New recruits urgently needed for Community Games

In his address, President Father Davies congratulated Drumgooland on winning the ‘best area’ award for 2010, while also voicing his pleasure at seeing Mayobridge back in the fold.

Chairman John Drake said Community Games were currently “at a crossroads”, with many core people now older and not directly involved with children.

“They are still able administrators and their skills are very much needed, but we urgently need to identify new people to work directly with children in their respective areas,” he said. “If we cannot recruit this type of person, then our organisation will cease to exist in Down within a very short time.”

Murrough McDonagh was welcomed to the meeting and the treasurer’s report, which showed a healthy balance, was given by Rosemary Ward. Rosemary was also presented with the County Volunteer of the Year award.

The election of officers was as follows: President, Fr A Davies; Chairman, John Drake; Vice-chairm, P McAleenan; Secretary, Christine McCartan; Treasurer, Rosemary Ward.

Other appointments: Assistant treasurer, Margaret McVeigh; PRO, Fr Davies; Development Officer, Kelly McAleese; Youth Officer, Louise Mackin; Child Protection Officer, Christine McCartan; NEAC, Sean Cairns.

Ulster Delegates are John Drake and Kelly McAleese and County Delegates to NAGM are Sean Cairns, Margaret McVeigh and Christine McCartan.

There is a new event in the games this year - handwriting U-10 boys and girls - and organisers have urged anyone interested to register their interest as soon as possible.
