New season underway at Galgorm Castle

The new season began at Galgorm Castle Golf Club off the white tees with a 4-Ball Team Classic and golfers reverted to their original playing handicaps.

Playing conditions were anything but pleasant as the early staqrters had to contend with continuous rain and at times hail.

However the weather brightened up somewhat in the afternoon.

Through Broadmeadows, Team A (Colin Black 18, Andrew McLarnon 14, Trevor Fletcher 16 and Lewis Surgenor 18) were leading by two points from Team C (Michael Barr 18, George Kernohan 15, Barry Mott 20 and Samuel Bamber 19).

They were followed by Team B (Colin Gray 13, William Craig 28, Joshua Hill 11 and Clifford Irvine 18) another three points behind.

Team D (Seamus Laverty 16, Tony Carroll 12, Tony Quinn 19 and Damian Gillan 17) were a further point down.

At halfway the team positions remained the same but Team A had increased their lead over Team C to five points.

Team B lost another point to Team C and were now four points down.

However they gained two points on Team D who were now a further three points behind.

Through twelve Team A were six points ahead of Team B.

Two pars at eleven and two birdies at twelve enabled Team B to overtake Team C (two bogeys and a bogey, double bogey) and were one point ahead of them with Team D five points further behind Team B.

Approaching the sixteenth tee the positions remained the same with Team A remaining six points clear of Team B who were a further one point ahead of the Team D quartet of S.Laverty, T.Carroll, T.Quinn and D.Gillan who had closed to within three points of Team C.

With one to play Team A were still six points clear of Team B.

Team D (S.Laverty, T.Carroll, T,Quinn and D.Gillan) were finishing strongly and with two pars at The Grove and par, bogey at the Lowlands drew level with Team C (M.Barr, G.Kernohan, B.Mott and S.Bamber) who only managed to score two bogeys at each of the two holes.

Team A (C.Black, A.McLarnon, T.Fletcher and L.Surgenor) finished with a par, birdie to win by five points from Team B who finished par, birdie in second place.

Another four points away in third place came Team C (Barr, Kernohan, Mott and Bamber) with a par, bogey at the eighteenth a point ahead of Team D (S.Laverty, T.Carroll, T.Quinn and D.Gillan) who finished with two bogeys.

Twos were recorded by – A.Knox, James McClintock, C.Black, G.Watt, C.Irvine (x2), J.Hill, B.Cull, M.Brown, M.McAuley, M.Hamilton and W.Kennedy.
