New signing shines despite heavy loss

Derry Colts U12s 7

Banbridge Town U12s 1

SATURDAY October 2 saw Banbridge Town Juniors travel to Cookstown to play Derry Colts.

The game got off to a frantic start with both sides going toe to toe despite the Banbridge side yet again fielding a depleated squad.

With eight minutes on the clock Derry played in a high ball from the right and the bounce of the ball beat the Banbridge defence to find the back of the net.

Banbridge responded quickly to this and on 10 minutes the Derry defence let Curtis-Lee McKeever in and he made no mistake in finding the back of the net with his weaker foot.

Neither team were able to dominate the run of the ball with the Banbridge boys providing some superb marking. In the closing stages of the first half Derry swung the ball in from the right and their forward latched onto it to make it 2-1.

With Derry having the option to make several changes at half time, they came out the stronger side and very quickly found the back of the net twice to make the score 4-1.

With Banbridge now tiring due to the lack of substitutes the colts got another goal 15 minutes in, 5-1.

The Banbridge boys were now putting out all the stops and running on empty but this wasn’t to be their day and with a defensive clearance coming off a Derry striker and rebounding into the back of the net the score was 6-1.

The final blow came from a goal mouth scramble in the dying seconds of the game to make the score 7-1 to Derry.

This week's man of the match was the recently signed David Houston for his never say die attitude.
