Held at Bangor R.F.C., the tournament saw teams from Ballymoney, Ballynahinch, Bangor, and Malone come together in competition.

This was the first time the Ballymoney Girls have played any of these teams competitively, and it was a joy to watch so many girls enthusiastically giving it there all, even though many of them have been training for less than a month.

Gill Powell, one of the coaches for the Ballymoney Girls Team, said:

“A huge well done to all the girls from Ballymoney, Ballynahinch, Bangor, and Malone, who took part in today’s rugby blitz tournament.

“It was good to see so many young girls there, giving it their all, and putting on a display of entertaining rugby.

“Although some of the girls are reasonably new to the sport, and have a way to go in terms of their knowledge of the laws and playing of the game, a great effort was made by each and every one of them.

“I hope today’s experience encourages them to continue in the sport and hopefully sees some of them come to fruition in years to come.”

The Ballymoney Girls under 17s train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at Ballymoney Rugby Football Club.

Gill would encourage any girl between the ages of 13 and 17, who thinks that rugby would be something they could enjoy, to come along and give it a go.

For anyone aged 18 and over who wish to give it a go. The senior ladies train on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.
