Nicholl’s side start on the road

CITY of Derry Rugby Club pre-season training got under way last night (Tuesday) ahead of the start of the 2013/14 season which begins on Saturday, August 17, with the IRFU All-Ireland Club ‘Sevens’ competition.

Senior training continues at Judges Road from 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The IRFU All-Ireland Club ‘Sevens’ tournament forms part of the Irish Rugby Gathering which will take place at University College Dublin.

And the following Saturday, August 24 the club’s senior squad will take on Omagh at Judges Road in a friendly fixture with the kick-off scheduled for 2.30pm.

The Ulster League then commences for City of Derry RFC on Saturday, August 31 with a difficult away trip to last year’s All-Ireland Division 1B and Ulster League champions, Ballynahinch.

Saturday, August 24th will also be a big day at Judges Road for the Youth Section with the U13s and U15s competing in an All-Ireland UK City of Culture Youth Tournament.

The other participating teams will be Skerries from Leinster, UL Bohs from Munster and Creggs from Connacht. The action gets under way at 11am and will be followed by the senior friendly against Omagh.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, August 31 the City of Culture George Tees Cup will be the main attraction at Judges Road. This competition is for Minor League teams and will see the home teams third and fourth XVs involved. The action will start at 1pm with the final scheduled for 6pm.
