Nigel nabs Centurion ISG Open

NIGEL Dobbin hit a marvellous score of 44 points to win the Centurion ISG Open Stableford at Bushfoot Golf Club on Saturday.

The sixteen handicapper took a bogey five at the fifth and the rest of the front nine holes were parred. The result of this was 24 points in the bag at the turn.

Even with a couple of double bogey sixes on the inward nine Nigel still bettered his handicap and was able to add in another 20 to give him a one point win over the in-form player of Open Week, Harry Love.

Harry features on the leaderboards of three of the Open Week events and really turned on the style in this one, 43 points off his handicap of ten. His front nine score of 25 points bettered the winner’s by a point. The long sixth fell to a birdie four and another bird was plucked from the par four eighth, with all the rest being parred Harry was out in two under par gross.

A discreet veil will be drawn over the tenth and the twelfth but Harry regrouped to add in another birdie three at seventeen but could only muster 18 points for the nine and missed out on the big prize. David Wright took 40 points from the course to get third spot. A blank at three limited the outward nine to 16 points. The back nine was much better from David; just three shots dropped to par meant the sixteen handicapper added 24 points to his score to grab the third prize.

Owen Crooks took the best gross prize with his return of 72. He took 38 shots for the outward half and bettered this by four second time round.

A birdie two at eleven and a three at fifteen helping him on his way.
