Night of nostalgia is held in Lisburn ahead of the Ulster GP

Lisburn City Council hosted a night of motor nostalgia at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex on Monday, August 11, to start the 2014 Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week.

Over 60 vintage and classic cars and bikes were waved off at the start line for a parade lap of the Dundrod Circuit; and an exhibition featuring Japanese 2-stroke motorbikes and winning bikes from the Ulster Grand Prix over the years was held in the grounds of the LeisurePlex.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, thanked Lisburn City Old Vehicles Club for organising the Parade Lap, Eddie Mateer for the outdoor exhibition, Andy Perry of Trial Star for his daring demonstrations and the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club for organising the Ulster Grand Prix.

Speaking at the event Alderman Porter said: “I would like to thank everyone for attending this great evening of motor vehicle history.

“Tonight we have a number of classic vehicles on show – a Jaguar, a Morris 8, Porsches and a Damler Lanchester. In terms of bikes we had Honda SuperSports, Yamahas and Triumphs.

“Lisburn is proud to support the world’s fastest road race and to have this classic and vintage parade and exhibition in Lisburn is very fitting.

“During the Parade Lap all the hard work of the Club and its volunteers was very evident as they put the finishing touches to the race course to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all who attend this week.

Dundrod’s Bike Week runs until tomorrow, Saturday, August 16.
