North Antrim Festival of Hurling a huge success

North Antrim started the North Antrim School of Excellence earlier this year with an aim to promote Hurling and further develop our young players within North Antrim from U10 to U13 level in both Division 1 and Division 2.

We travelled down to James Stephen’s GAA Club in County Kilkenny on 2 occasions earlier this year with our squads and decided it was now our turn to host a sizable event for the Under 10 to Under 13 age groups.

This weekend we hosted a festival of Hurling spread across Ballycastle, Cushendall, Loughguile and Dunloy for the U10 to U13 age groups with each venue hosting a particular age group due to the numbers taking part. Teams where invited up from Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Derry, and across County Antrim for the 2 day event. The word on the street and seeing it first-hand I think it was an All-Ireland weekend in North Antrim. The talent and determination the young lads showed over the weekend provided a very entertaining weekend of Hurling across all venues and it’s a credit to themselves plus their coaches. If this is what these young lads are capable of now, just image what they will be like once they hit senior level if they keep at it.

The sponsor for the weekend was Premier Electrics and North Antrim would like to thank them once again. Without out the help of our sponsors it would not be possible to run events like these throughout the year.
