North Antrim fighters do well in Clan Wars at the Ulster Hall in Belfast

On Saturday 3rd August north Antrim fighters Owen Kinney and Alex McCooke fought in Belfast at the major Clan Wars Mixed Martial Arts promotion, held in the Ulster Hall.

Matched in the cage against top class opponents the 2 AVT fighters both came out with first round victories that had the capacity crowds raising the roof with cheers.

First up was Alex who lived up to his fight name “The Arzilian” (because he hails from Armoy and has a similar style to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter) by dominating his opponent on the ground and submitting him in the last seconds of the first round with a choke.

Owen then took the stage and showed how far the former boxer has come in rounding his skills by securing a massive judo throw take down, before getting arguably a knockout of the night with a knee to finish his opponent in under a minute.

Coach Alan Ashcroft said: “Clan Wars is a major promotion recognised not only in Ireland, but all of Europe. It is seen as a stepping stone to further things and to see two of our members be so dominant in the cage is testament to how hard they train and how far we’ve come as a club.

“I’m extremely proud of both of them and the rest of the club who helped in their training camp for these fights”.

September sees the AVT fighters on the stage again with shows in Belfast and title fights in Derry.
