North West Championships take centre stage now league is over

With no league games in the North West Indoor Bowling League last week the North West Championship play-offs began.

The Ladies Pairs, Open Singles and Triples were all played down to semi- final stages.

In the Ladies Pairs, Betty McIlroy and Pearl Black (St. Mary’s) will now play Marion Campbell and Jennifer Huston (Castlerock) in the final.

The singles saw some great play but some players could not deal with the differing weight of the mats. The final will be played between David Paul (Second Kilrea) and Danny Taggart (Dunluce Parish).

In the triples at Ballybrakes, many of the “big names” fell by the wayside but the final should be well contested with Alex Jones, Chris Jones and Mark Jones (Finvoy Presbyterian) up against Sam Barr, William Torrens and Trevor Workman (Moneydig).

Just hope that in the final Chris and Mark don’t let down young Alex, the rising star.

Finals night will be held in Loughanreagh, under the auspices of President Jim Steele on Wednesday 16th. March 2016 at 7.15pm.

Dress code will be whites and greys or Club colours.

This week sees the other two disciplines, ie Open Pairs and Fours taking place.

The pairs will be held in Moneydig on Tuesday night with play starting at 7.15 whilst the fours will take place in Ballybrakes at 6.45pm.

The committee of the NWIBL would like to thank all those Clubs who give the League the use of their halls for these play-offs.

The first semi-final of the Morrison Trophy was also played which saw Dunluce Parish beat Loughanreagh. Dunluce now await the outcome of the Ballinrees v Finvoy game which is scheduled to be played this Wednesday. The final of the Morrison Trophy will be held in Castlerock on Monday 14th. March 2016 at 7.15pm. Again dress code for the final is whites and greys or Club colours.
