Northern Ireland Karate Championships

LAST weekend members of the Chujo Karate Association competed in the Northern Ireland Karate Board Championships.

The event was held in Lisburn Leisure Plex.

Malachy Devlin (Ballymoney Club) took a bronze medal in the Male Senior Free Sparring division.

Michael Weir (Coleraine Club) won joint third in the Children’s Kata section.

In the Female Cadet Kata section Rebecca Burns (Ballymena Club) took joint bronze and in Female Senior Kata section her older sister Laura Burns took a joint bronze. Chief Coach Dan Redmond said he was pleased with the performance of his members.

This is their second outing at this level and he said they have learned much.

Black belt examination

Nine CKA members have been preparing for their Black Belt examination on June 4.

All nine applicants have been in an intensive training programme for the examination.

Iain Abernethy seminar

Sensei Iain Abernethy will coach at a seminar in Coleraine Leisure Centre on Saturday 5 June (1pm to 5pm).

The seminar content will include kata applications with an emphasis or how this can be applied to a self defence situation.

A limited number of places are still left on the seminar.

To date 42 persons from various Martial Art backgrounds, and from all over Ireland, have paid a deposit and booked their place.
