A first for town
LURGAN made political history in 1987 with the announcement of the first woman candidate from Northern Ireland to fight a Westminster election for the Alliance Party.
A former resident of the town, Mrs Fionnuala Cook, was chosen as the party’s candidate in Upper Bann.
