Angry Finaghy residents demand more protection

Angry residents at Diamond Gardens, Finaghy - scene of two bomb attacks within the space of a few days in July 1971 - wrote to the PM Brian Faulkner asking for the reorganisation of the Special Constabulary, the full re-arming of the RUC, internment of members of the IRA and the introduction of a curfew.

Andrew Trimble of Lisburn Rural Council claimed the disbandment of the Specials left the way clear for the terrorism, destruction and chaos that had been prevailing.
