Bottling factory saved

A factory in Glenarm, operated by Optrex Ltd for the bottling of orange juice and distribution of welfare foods, was saved from closure.

The factory manager, John Fisher, decided to take over the plant on March 31.

Mr Fisher had obtained the contract for bottling and food distribution.

He indicated that a small number of people would be employed.

However, he said that he planned to expand the operation by introducing the production of concentrated juice from rosehips.

In Carnlough, drama unfolded when a two-ton mobile grocery van careered out of control and crashed into a house, demolishing a wall.

The house was owned by chemist James Mallon. No-one was at home at the time.
