Carnlough historical discovery

A Bronze Age settlement was unearthed in Carnlough in August 1982.

The site which dates back from 2000-1500 BC was discovered by a team from Queens University Belfast. The team had been working at the site for five weeks and found some interesting artefacts. The leader of the team said that he was “delighted with the discovery.” The historical pieces which were found, were well preserved and very rare. There was pottery dating from the early Bronze Age or even Neolithic times, as well as stone axes from a period just after.

The same week there was cause for celebration in Carnlough as a local woman became a great-great grandmother. The 89 year old had 42 grandchildren and 55 great- grandchildren.
