Causeway plan shelved

Plans for a “causeway” between Magheramorne and Islandmagee looked set to be shelved in the spring of 1963, according to a report in the East Antrim Times.

Mr. RS Sproule told a meeting of more than 60 ratepayers that the project was not likely to proceed “for a long time if ever”.

He suggested that the project would have merit if “some type of industrial unit” was constructed.

He expressed concern over the alleged dumping of refuse in the vicinity by a cement company, which he claimed, was not supposed to exceed the height of a railway carriage.
