Club record ten wickets for Alan

LURGAN cricketer Alan Johnston had the members of the town club stumped in 1977.

They were going through the record books to see if anyone had ever taken all ten wickets before in a senior match.

Alan returned the figures of 10 wickets for 25 runs as Lurgan skittled Bangor for just 66 runs.

It seems that it certainly was a club record.

It was a case of third time lucky for Alan as he had previously taken nine wickets in a match.

However it wasn’t the first time it had happened in the Johnston family.

Alan’s father David took all ten for Lurgan against Waringstown although this was in a friendly game.

And as Alan came of the field after taking the ten wickets skipper Dickie Maxwell had an encouraging word.

He told him: “Well bowled Alan, you’ll improve with experience.”
