Councillor shines light after residents are left in the dark

Councillor Billy McDonnell called for positive action to be taken to brighten up parts of the borough that were without street lights.

Since a period of severe heavy rain, a number of street lights had been left defective and were not working.

The councillor was angry that since the bad weather he had been made aware of many street lights which were not operating, and was wanting to know why it was taking so long to fix the problems.

Speaking at the time, Councillor McDonnell appealed for action to be taken on the issue.

“Many residents are annoyed about this and something will have to be done to rectify the situation,” he said.

He said he was concerned that with the lack of street lighting and claimed there could be an upsurge in crime in the area.

“I am concerned that the absence of street lights will encourage vandalism and break-ins in the areas which are affected,” he added.

Councillor McDonnell appealed for home owners to be vigilant and to contact the police if they required any advice on securing their homes.
