Darren Clarke wins prize

The young Darren showed maturity beyond his years as he held onto his lead near the end of his round - but just in case you think the Darren referred to is a certain masters winner think again, we’re not reporting on Dungannon’s most famous son.

Birdies at the first and fourth holes meant that the young man with the famous namesake had turned four under and by the 12th tee he was standing six under handicap after a couple of timely pars at the two previous holes.

Darren dropped one to play but a fighting par at the last gave him the best win so far in his career.

Bobby Deane and Eugene McAtamney tied for second place one stroke in arrears with Bobby gaining the edge on the back nine.

Team Captain, John Richardson was forced to make a few changes in the team which forced a draw at Whitehead but the selection of Jim Woods and Paddy Morgan proved to be crucial as these two both won and victories by Robert Bridgett and Sean O’Neill gave the tie to Lurgan by two clear matches as Bobby Deane fought bravely to gain a half at the 18th green.
