Detective is commended for his bravery

A former pupil of Lurgan College was commended for his bravery in 1980.

And the previous year David Doak won a bravery award.

A detective with Lancashire police David disarmed a gunman and subsequently won praise from a Preston Crown Court judge.

David tackled the man who had a gun loaded with eight rounds and cocked and ready to fire.

The man in court was appearing on a drugs charge.

He pulled out the gun and said he was going to shoot himself.

It was then that David and a detective sergeant tackled him.

The previous year David received a bravery award when he pulled a youngster out of a fire.
