Do you remember when . . . Adult Centre was to replace hotel

Work was due to get underway to convert the former Inver River Hotel in Larne to a new adult training centre.

According to the Larne Times in July 1985, Health Minister Chris Patten said that tenders for the project had been accepted by his department.

The new facility was due to be completed in 1986.

Alderman Jack McKee who had been campaigning for the centre said: “This adult training centre is much-needed.”

Ald McKee added:“At present, conditions are cramped, although I must praise the work done by staff and helpers.

“I am sure everyone involved with the work will also be delighted that building work is starting.”
