Family plan to create golf club

THE seeds of what is now the splendid Edenmore Golf and Country Club near Magheralin were first sown in 1991.

Plans were announced that a nine hole course, clubhouse and restaurant would be in operation by the following year.

Permission had been given to develop 50 acres at Drumnabreeze Road by the Logan family.

Father Norman and sons Kenneth and James intended to do most of the work themselves and there was a great deal of interest in the project.

The Logans had farmed beef, sheep and arable crops but as farm incomes contined to fall throughout Northern Ireland, they decided to diversify.

Said Kenneth: “None of us play golf ourselves but, with the continued growth of Moira and Lurgan, we believe there was a need for such a leisure facility in this area.

“Membership of most of the golf clubs around here is closed, such is the demand, so we hope for a good response.

“Quite a few people have already asked in advance about becoming members.

“It is a big undertaking but we have tried to foresee as many problems as possible over this past year of planning.”

The proposed course was to have two par fives, two par threes and five par fours.
