Fellowship to hold act of remembrance

During the November 10 meeting in the Sir Henry Wilson Memorial Orange Hall members of the fellowship will give thanks for and pay tribute to all of those “who down through the years have answered the call and enlisted in the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and civil bodies and organisations”.

A spokesperson said: “They will also remember and give thanks for the greatest sacrifice of all, when the Lord Jesus Christ gave His life on a cross at Calvary for our sins.”

Special guest speaker at the meeting, the Rev. Ian Brown, Minister of Martyrs’ Memorial Free Presbyterian Church, Belfast, is a Lisburn native.

“As a youth,” the spokesperson said, “he came to a personal saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and went to answer the call to Gospel ministry through several portions of scripture that left a great impression on his heart (1 Samuel 3:4; Mark 10:49 ).

“This call to theological training was further confirmed by means of Colossians 4:17: “Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.”

Prior to his installation at Martyrs Memorial in 2013, he had pastored the Free Presbyterian congregation in Londonderry since 1987. He currently serves as Clerk of Presbytery and since 2005 has been the Convenor of the Government and Morals Committee, a role in which he has campaigned on a variety of moral issues while also spearheading the ‘Consider Christ’ evangelistic project.

He is also author of several Gospel books and pamphlets.

The special guest soloist will be Miss Judith Beattie from the Poyntzpass area.

Said the spokesperson: “At the age of five, after a Friday nightchildren’s meeting in her church, she went home and asked her Mum about salvation and she kindly led her to the Lord by her bedside.”

Judith herself says: “Accepting Christ as my Lord and Saviour was the best decision I could have ever made.

“He has been with me ever since that night, through school and my teenage years and even now at university as I study my nursing degree at Queen’s Belfast.”

Judith is involved in many aspects of her church, including the Youth Fellowship, and recently got engaged to Andrew, who is also a member of Tandragee Free Presbyterian Church.

The meeting will commence at 8pmand is open to men and women of all ages.

A light supper will be served after the meeting.
