It is believed to have been built in 1607 and many will say there is a tunnel connecting the Castle with the Norman Mound on the outskirts of Dromore.

Eyesore? But has, in fact, the Castle outlived its usefulness? Some townspeople described it as an eyesore. Others, including the town council, regarded it as a traffic hazard because of the position it occupied in a narrow street, while there are those who think the site would be better used as a much - needed car park.

Meanwhile the future of the old Castle seemed to be in the balance.
