Glenavon fan set to sue

A GLENAVON supporter was threatening legal action against Cliftonville in January 1989.

The Moira man was punched in the eye after trouble broke out between rival supporters.

He claimed the attack was completely unprovoked and said: “I am considering taking them to court.”

Several other Glenavon supporters, including an eight-year-old girl, were hurt in the skirmish and Glenavon were planning to make an official complaint to the Irish FA and league, while angry fans revealed they would not return to Solitude for future matches.

Glenavon strongly refuted suggestions from Cliftonville that the incident was of a minor nature and ‘over very quickly’.

Club chairman Wilfie Geddis said: “It was a very serious matter and Glenavon are treating it as such.”
