Golfers spent £11in the clubhouse

Golfers in the borough spent £13,426 at the “nineteenth hole” in 1966, according to figures published in the East Antrim Times.

The greatest expenditure on alcohol was at Carrick Golf Club where members spent £5,416 in the clubhouse.

Members spent £4,650 at Whitehead Golf and £3,360 at Greenisland.

Overall, approximately £100,000 was spent on alcohol in 22 licensed sports and social clubs in County Antrim in 1966.

These had a membership of 9,300. Each member spent an average of £11 on liquor that year.

The Royal British Legion Club in Larne had the highest annual alcohol expenditure amounting to £5,774.
