Housewives 'bringin home the bacon'

THE NI Pork and Bacon Forum was encouraging housewives to 'bring home the bacon' in March 1989.

This was part of a major campaign aimed at promoting greater consumption of Northern Irish pork and bacon.

NI Pork and Bacon, which included representatives of farmers, the Pigs Marketing Board and curers, was spending over 100,000 to get across the message of the 'freshness' of 'homegrown' bacon and pork to the housewife.

Forum Chairman, Mr Dee Robinson, said: "Northern Irish pork and bacon is renowned in other parts of the world but we feel that here at home it isn't fully appreciated.

"This campaign, based on a major market research project, is intended to change that and to highlight the quality of local products rather than the imports which have been dumped on our doorstep over the past couple of years."
