Jeffrey reels in 198lbs Marlin in South Africa

A YOUNG Lurgan angler landed the ‘fish of his dreams’ in South Africa in 2000.

Sixteen year old Jeffrey Tweedie, from Larkfield Square in Lurgan, landed a 198lb Black Marlin.

Jeffrey had been taken out sea fishing as a treat by his father Tom who was working with Boxmore in South Africa.

Tom said: “We were fishing just off the coast near the border with Mozambique when Jeffrey got a bite.

“It was obvious it was a big fish but Jeffrey was adamant that he was going to land it on his own.”

What followed was a lung bursting two and a half hour battle with Jeffrey having to use every ounce of his strength to gain control of the monster fish.

“It was a real battle,” said proud dad Tom. “But Jeffrey stuck to his guns and eventually wore it down.

“It took quite a bit of skill as he was using a line with a breaking strain of 130lbs.”
