Kids
oppose school closure

IN May of 1988 a group of local schoolkids from Magheraknock Primary School on Ballynahinch Road staged a roadside protest after the education and library board recommended the school’s closure.

The children waved ‘Save our school’ posters at the passing public and motorists, who tooted their horns in support.

Some of the children felt so strongly about keeping the school open that they had asked their parents if they could bring sleeping bags into school to stage a sleep-in protest.
