Larne ‘dirty hole’ for visitors

A councillor expressed concern that visitors to the town would think that Larne was “a dirty hole” in June 1964.

Speaking at a meeting of the borough council, Councillor McKeever highlighted the appearance of the disused council-owned Loughview Hotel .

Mr. McKeever suggested that the council should take steps to place a notice at the “unsightly” building stating that it was to be used for “something more useful”.

However, the councillor was informed that motorists should be keeping their “eyes on the road” instead of looking at notice boards.

Mr. McKeever commented: “This is a retrograde step. I’m sure people will think Larne is nothing but a dirty hole.”

The Loughview Hotel was built in the 1920s.
