Legionaires shelter in cinema for service

The spirit of comradeship so typical of the Royal British Legion was very much in evidence at a special drumhead and Somme Anniversary Service back in July 1969.

It had been planned to hold the service, organised by the Legion, in the open air but intermittent showers of torrential rain ruled this out so the Legionaires took advantage of Mrs George Matier’s offer to hold the service in the Iveagh Cinema.

The ex-service personnel marched to the cinema in best order.
