Linn Primary juniors sent to church hall

According to the East Antrim Times. 74 pupils in two junior classes had to be accommodated at Craigyhill Presbyterian Church Hall.

The school had opened five years previously with 334 children.

Principal JCJ Adair said that two new classrooms would soon have to be built to “solve the overflow problem”.

He indicated that although the school had originally been built for children in Craigyhill, they had been joined by some from the new Antiville estate.

He noted that when the new primary school was built in Antiville, it would “steady” enrolment at just over 500.

The principal continued: “The size of the infant school is attributed to the fact that most of the people living in the estate are young married couples with young children. “

He also said that many people had come from overseas to work in local factories which accounted for a number of pupils at Linn Primary of nationalities including American and Canadian.

“The school needs are never static with the population changing constantly. This upsets the planning of classes but it is a problem we accept.”
