Looking back... Ballyduff residents campaign for Post Office

Ballyduff was in the running as a location for a new sub-Post Office after years of campaigning by local residents, according to a report in the East Antrim Times in March 1980.

A Post Office spokesman said that the location depended on the applications received for the position of postmaster.

The report indicated that when the original request for a sub-Post Office was turned down, a few years previously, a number of residents took the matter up with management during a meeting with the head postmaster.

A petition circulated in the district gathered 1,000 signatures.

One local resident said: “Not having a Post Office in the estate has proved considerably inconvenient.

“People even have to take a bus to get to Carnmoney Post Office in order to buy stamps.

“It has been a particular problem for pensioners and mothers with young children. Applications from interested locals would be extremely welcome.”

The Post Office said that there were no definite plans for the siting of a sub-office as it depended on the applications received.
