Looking back... Duke of Gloucester sends his good wishes

Greetings were brought to Newtownabbey Urban Council from HRH the Duke of Gloucester in October 1965.

The message was brought by Raymond O’Brien, who represented Northern Ireland at the opening ceremony of Boys’ Club Week at St. James’s Palace.

It was presented to Councillor Robert Hart, chairman of the urban council, during a reception in the town hall.

The Duke said: “It gives me much pleasure to receive your message delivered to me in person in London on the occasion of the launch of Club Week.

“I would like to thank you for the support. I am sure that with this encouragement, Club Week in Newtownabbey will be most successful.”
