Looking back... Kings Moss bonfire was biggest in Ulster

A report in the East Antrim Times indicated that collection for the “mountain” commenced as soon as the previous year’s bonfire had died.

It was constructed annually at the home of Margaret Thompson, complete with Orange arch and bunting.

Mrs Thompson insisted that this year’s “mountain” was not as big as usual.

The arch was officially opened by Rev Ian Paisley and the fire was usually lit by the chairman of the DUP.

Chief fire officer Sidney Pollock urged caution, saying that there could be children who may be trapped inside whilst playing.
