Looking back... Parents’ Association meets in Abbots Cross

The Abbots Cross branch of the Northern Ireland Parents’ Association held its monthly meeting at the local primary school in February 1959.

A panel, introduced by principal Mr J Kennedy, was invited to answer questions on a diverse range of subjects including teenagers’ behaviour, women in the home and religious teaching in schools.

Meanwhile, Newtownabbey Urban Council appointed a deputation to approach the Ulster Transport Authority over the provision of bus shelters in Rathcoole.

Urban council chairman Mr H Robinson said: “If the people of Rathcoole get one, the people of Whiteabbey will want one and so will the people of Jordanstown, so why should the ratepayers subsidise the UTA. It is their responsibility.”
