lUCKY GAMBLER WINS £2K ON 10P WAGER IN 1994

ONE lucky Lurgan gambler walked off with over £2,600 for a 10p bet in 1994.

That meant the odds were an incredible 26,470-1.

The punter placed his Tote Jackpot bet with Tommy French Bookmakers in William Street.

He staked the princely sum of 10p and a few hours later walked out with £2,647 in his back pocket.

The bet was organised on a pool basis and if the lucky man had been the only winner in the UK he would have scooped £40,000.

“We reckon it’s the biggest odds ever paid out here,” said a spokesman for French’s. “We‘re just glad he did not have £1 on it.”

The winning wager saw the man pick six winners from the card at Doncaster.

Indeed French’s revealed that his winnings could have been even greater.

He had two horses picked in the last race and the one that was beaten was better priced.

If it had won he would have walked away with around £7,000.
