Lurgan Blues hit top of table

There were scenes of jubilation at Mourneview Park in January 1977 as Glenavon defeated Glentoran to go top of the Irish League.

Defender Jeff Blair scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Not for so many years had there been so much interest in a Glenavon match.

But it took a crowd of 40 men working around the clock from Friday to clear the field of snow.

At one stage a tractor with snow plough attached was needed.

It was the club’s biggest crowd of the season and half an hour before kick off the terraces were almost full.
