‘MAIL’ gets a touch of colour

THE LURGAN Mail got a touch of colour on October 9, 1975 with a new look front page.

New technology allowed the printing of front page colour pictures for the first time and the first such picture used was of the open air flower market in the town.

The picture bore the caption: “Many a flower was born to blush unseen. And waste itsin sweetness on the desert air.

“Not so the colourful splash of fine blooms which week after week for more years than anyone cares to remember have graced the Market Street kerbside.

“Many worthwhile customs and traditions have disappeared but Lurgan’s open flower market continues to flourish.”
