Man threw bike through pub window

A LURGAN man was ordered to pay compensation after throwing a bike through a pub window in March 1970.

The man, from Taghnevan, had been thrown out of the pub and expressed his displeasure by chucking a bicycle through the pub's window.

Having been ordered to pay compensation, the case was then adjourned until July in order to allow the defendant time to pay for the damage.

He threw the bike at the window of the pub on High Street with the handlebars smashing the glass. At first he denied any wrongdoing but after his parents heard about it he said he would pay for it, the police investigator told the court.

The resident magistrate said it was a case which deserved a jail sentence but he would like to see the defendant paying for the damage.

He told the defendant that he was treating him leniently but he expected the damages to be paid when the case came up again, warning him that if it happened again he would certainly go to prison.
