Memories of Monktown

Mr and Mrs Allan Stewart and their children - 17-year-old Ethel, Alan (14), George (10), Bertie (six) and Elizabeth, (five) were invited to a social at their local hall where there was a large turn-out of residents and friends to bid them farewell.

Mr Stewart was presented with a wallet of notes as a leaving gift.

He told those gathered for the occasion that he would “always cherish happy memories of Monkstown”.

A number of artistes went on to provide music for the evening.

The family was due to travel to Australia by ship.
