Milkman stepped into deliver children

Carrick’s school bus service came under fire at the start of the autumn term in 1963.

According to the East Antrim Times, primary school children had to walk a mile-and-half from Model Primary to Sunnylands Primary which was being used as temporary accommodation.

Irate mother Mrs JD Hopper pointed out that some children who lived within a two mile radius of their school were able to avail of public transport to school against Ulster Transport Authority regulations. The issue was to be raised with MP Alex Hunter.
