Nostlagia: Flower arrangement society anniversary

The Lurgan and District Flower Arrangement Society celebrated its 21st birthday in 1994.

The society was established by Marion Morrow and Sadie Leathem from Tannaghmore Road in 1973 at the height of the ‘Troubles’ when people had basically stopped going out to socialise.

Their idea was to set up something which everyone could join, regardless of their expertise and experience.

They soon attracted like-minded individuals from all walks of life.

Meeting once a month at the Friends Meeting House in the town centre the society blossomed over the years and by its 21st anniversary it had 40 members.

Not only did members come from the town but also from Banbridge, Portadown, Dromore and even Armagh.

“Basically what it’s all about is having fun with flowers and making friends,” said Marian.

“Some people call it a class but it is more of a club.”
