Priest stars in gala night

A CHURCH building fund benefitted to the tune of £5 when a local priest fronted a showband in 1978.

A gala night took place at St Anthony’s Hall with a host of big names but it was parish priest Father Frank Kearney who stole the show.

Apparently someone bet him £5 - which went to the church building fund - that he would not get up on stage.

But he did and, wearing a country style hat and carrying a saxaphone, he performed in front of 400 people, joining singing start Susan McCann on stage.

“It was hilarious and the audience loved it,” said one spectator.
