Carrickfergus Borough Council received a letter from HRH Princess Margaret in November 1961.

The letter was sent to mayor Alderman TJ Patterson following a telegram sent to the princess congratulating her on the birth of her first son, Viscount Linley, David Armstrong-Jones.

The letter read: “Dear Mr. Mayor, I am bidden by Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon to send to all for whom you speak, the wholesome sincere thanks for your message of congratulations which they greatly appreciate.”

The letter bore the crest of Clarence House and was signed by FM Leigh, Private Secretary to Princess Margaret.
