£3 million college for Jordanstown

A new £3 million technical college was to be constructed at Jordanstown, according to a report in the East Antrim Times in May 1968.

The facility was to be developed by Building Design Partnership, “master planners” which produced the Belfast Area Plan involving the future development of Newtownabbey.

The announcement was made in the House of Commons by the Minister of Education Captain Long.

He said that it was hoped that the regional college would be operational within the next three years.

He confirmed that the site had been acquired and the architect would be appointed.

The captain noted that BDP could provide all services required for a large building project.
