Railway exhibit

Visitors can delve into the area’s unique railway history at the exhibition which provides a glimpse of the rich railway heritage of the area, with a particular focus on the steam railway excursions from Portadown and Lurgan to holiday destinations such as Bangor, Newcastle, Warrenpoint and Bundoran in years gone by.

The exhibition has attracted great interest and has led to the donation of a wide range of exciting railway related items to the Museum’s extensive collection.

One item which is of particular interest is a historic photo taken in the early 1900s.

The photograph features a local man called Mr William Joyce Topley (second from right) from Brackagh Crossroads, Portadown who was one of the many men from the area who worked for the Great Northern Railway Company during its heyday. The other men featured are known to be from Portadown but are unidentified.

Any information local residents would have regarding the identity of the men would be most welcome and would help the Museum expand its extensive historical collection profiling the local area.

The exhibition is on display at Waterside House, Oxford Island, from now until September 11, and is open Monday-Saturday 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and Sunday 2pm-5pm.
