Railway warning

LURGAN’S railway children were given a stern warning in 1978.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said that they were dicing with death.

They said there was a serious risk of a child being killed.

They added: “The incident notified to us concerned three young children, the youngest about two who was standing on the track and the other two on the bank at the side of the track.

“If positive action is not taken immediately an accident will occur with tragic results.”

The Republican Clubs North Armagh Executive said in a statement: “We believe only luck has prevented a tragedy so far.

“Since our last appeal for safety nothing has improved. Children and grown-ups continue to use the line.

Parents must snap out of their careless attitudes. ‘Children killed on railtrack’ is a headline which threatens to condemn all Kilwilke for not caring.”
