School reunion

Well, they all started at Lurgan College in 1983 and they’re hoping to meet up with their former classmates 25 years on.

A reunion for the class on 83-87 is being organised for November 11 (jumping the gun a little on the actual 25th but us college folk like to be ahead of the game).

The reunion will take place at Brownlow House - although a brief visit to the college premises is being planned for earlier in the evening. Tickets are priced £25 (somewhat appropriately) with profits going to the Mandeville Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital.

Among the organising committee are Brian Turkington, Dr David Grier, Andrea Jennett (nee Cherry). Grainne Irwin (nee Dowey), Sam Whitty, Sharon Johnston (nee Buchanan) and Clint Aiken.

The idea for the reunion was first mooted by Brian who said he had been thinking of a reunion of old classmates for some years.

Using Facebook, Twitter and other means Brian has managed to track down quite a few of his former school mates and the class of 87 group on Facebook has grown in popularity among the ‘alumni’.

Brian said: “For a couple of years I’ve thought it would be a good idea to meet up with old school friends and chat about what we’ve been up to over the past 25 years.

“I’m very keen that as many of us as possible should meet together on that evening.”

While plans still have to be completely finalised the evening should feature lots of 80s music, photos from the old school days and other ‘memory activities’ to help the reminiscing along.

It’s hoped all who attend will have a fun night and partners are welcome too - if they’re willing to sit through all the old school stories.
