Search is on for the ‘children of 1981’

An English woman has got in contact with the Londonderry Sentinel, in the hope that some of our readers might be able to help her with research for an exhibition.

Many moons ago a delegation of children from Londonderry, and possibly also from Belfast, travelled to Lancashire and stayed in or around the Ramsbottom area.

Now Joyce Wild, who is a member of St Paul’s Church in Ramsbottom, has been in touch, hoping that anyone who remembers the holiday in Ramsbottom will have photographs or memories to share for exhibition.

In her email to The Sentinel Joyce said: “We are organising a Memory Lane Exhibition travelling back over the last 50 years.

“In 1981 some children from Londonderry and, I think Belfast, came over for a holiday and were billeted with various families around Ramsbottom.

“As part of the exhibition we are hoping to do a section on this and I am hoping that The Londonderry Sentinel would, perhaps, place an item in the newspaper asking for photographs and memorabilia of that time,” she said.

Any kind of memorabilia is welcome including correspondence from anyone who was on the trip who might take the time to write to her.

Joyce has provided several ways of making contact, including telephone numbers and emails, which appear below.

“We would even be happy to receive a letter from anyone who was part of this event, telling us of their memories and experiences.

“Everything that we receive will be put on display and we promise we will take great care of any original documents or photographs we receive and will ensure that they are returned to their owners. I do hope your readers will be able to help us.”

For those who can help there are two contact telephone numbers for Joyce, 01204 886047, or her mobile telephone number is 07561127882. The second contact is Alma Sanders, 01706 826432. Or email [email protected].
